The journey begins with a short drive from Kathmandu to Sundarijal, a small village at the edge of Shivapuri National Park. The trek starts with a steep ascent through dense forests and waterfalls, leading to the village of Mulkharka, where you can enjoy panoramic views of the Kathmandu Valley. Continuing the trek, you’ll pass through the Shivapuri watershed area, rich in flora and fauna. After a few more hours of trekking, you’ll reach Chisapani, a beautiful hilltop village known for its breathtaking sunrise and sunset views over the Himalayan ranges, including Langtang, Ganesh Himal, and Jugal Himal.
On the second day, the trek takes you through dense forests of oak and rhododendron as you head towards Kutumsang. The trail gradually descends to the village of Pati Bhanjyang and then ascends again towards Gul Bhanjyang, a small but charming Tamang village. The path then continues uphill, offering scenic views of the surrounding valleys and mountain peaks. You’ll finally reach Kutumsang, a peaceful village inhabited mainly by Sherpas and Tamangs, where you’ll spend the night.
This day involves a steady climb as you trek through lush forests and alpine meadows. The trail is less populated, providing a sense of solitude and tranquility. As you gain altitude, the landscape changes, and you’ll start noticing the influence of Tibetan Buddhism in the region. After a challenging ascent, you’ll arrive at Tharepati, the highest point of the trek. From here, you can enjoy magnificent views of the snow-capped peaks of the Langtang and Jugal Himal ranges. Tharepati is a perfect place to experience the pristine beauty of the Himalayas in solitude.
The trek on the fourth day descends gradually through pine and rhododendron forests, passing several small villages along the way. As you approach the Helambu region, you’ll notice a shift in culture and architecture, with more Buddhist monasteries and traditional houses. The trail leads to Melamchi Gaon, a village known for its monasteries and cultural richness. From here, you’ll continue your descent to Tarkeghyang, one of the largest villages in the Helambu region. Tarkeghyang is home to the Hyolmo people and offers a unique cultural experience along with spectacular views of the surrounding mountains.
The final day of the trek takes you on a gradual descent towards Melamchi Pul Bazaar. The trail passes through several small villages, terraced fields, and dense forests. As you descend, you’ll enjoy stunning views of the terraced landscapes and the Melamchi River below. Upon reaching Melamchi Pul Bazaar, you’ll catch a vehicle for a scenic drive back to Kathmandu, marking the end of your 5-day Helambu Circuit Trek.
