Our first destination is Gorkha, one of the seventy-five districts of Nepal and home of legendary Gurkha soldiers. The district, with Pokharithok (Gorkha) as its district headquarters. Gorkha is famous as the birthplace of Prithvi Narayan Shah, who unified the rival kingdoms of Nepal. Gorkha is still an important pilgrimage destination for Newars, who regard the Shahs as living incarnations of Vishnu. The main attraction is the Gorkha Durbar, the former palace of the Shahs, which looks over Gorkha from a precarious ridge. There are also historic temples dotted around the old part of Gorkha. It is a heavy climb up all the steps to the mountain temple, but the views are rewarding, especially when we return at sunset down to the center.

Bandipur is located at an elevation of 1030m on a mountain saddle (Mahabharat range), approximately 700m above the Marsyangdi River Valley, 143 km to the west of Kathmandu. Since 1998 it is connected by an 8 km access road from Dumre (Kathmandu-Pokhara highway). Until then there was only an unreliable road, in monsoon usually not accessible or only by tractors. The mountain saddle, just 200m long, is barely wide enough to accommodate the main street lined by 2 –3 storey buildings on either side. At the backsides of these houses the mountainsides steeply descend and the gardens are only accessible by stairs. Originally a simple Magar village in the early 19th. century Bandipur developed into a enchanting and prosperous trading center and a community with town-like features: substantial buildings, with their neoclassical facades and shuttered windows and streets paved with slabs of silverish slate. It is here where we will have a chance to photography the colors of ancient Nepal, faces, buildings, traditional farm life and beautiful green surroundings and scenic views.

Today we will arrive in Pokhara, the second largest city of Nepal. The city is located approximaely 200 km west of Kathmandu. Pokhara is the most popular tourist destination in Nepal. Three out of the ten highest mountains in the world — Dhaulagiri, Annapurna I and Manaslu — are within 30 miles (linear distance) of the city, so that the northern skyline of the city offers a very close view of the Himalayas. Due to its proximity to the Annapurna mountain range, the city is also a base for trekkers undertaking the Annapurna Circuit. There are numerous temples and gumbas in and around pokhara valley. Many temples serve as combined places of worship for Hindus and Buddhists. Phewa lake is the main tourist attraction. There are many excellent, especially (panoramic) and scenic photo locations located in and surrounding Pokhara.
