Welcome to Nepal. Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, a representative from Himalayan Dream Team will meet you and transfer you by private vehicle to your hotel.

After check-in and some time to rest, you will meet your guide for an introduction to the 7-day Street Photography Tour: Nepal in Focus. We will discuss the itinerary, photography opportunities, local customs and respectful ways of photographing people, religious sites and everyday life in Nepal.

Depending on your arrival time, you can take a relaxed walk through the nearby streets for your first photographs of Kathmandu. Colorful shops, pedestrians, rickshaws, small shrines, cafés and busy street corners provide an introduction to the city's lively atmosphere.

In the evening, enjoy a welcome dinner and get ready for the photography journey ahead.

Photography Focus: Markets, street life, temples, architecture, vendors, portraits and everyday Kathmandu

Today is dedicated to street photography in Kathmandu, combining historic monuments with some of the city's most active traditional neighbourhoods and markets.

Begin at Swayambhunath Stupa, also known as the Monkey Temple. Set on a hill overlooking Kathmandu, this ancient Buddhist site offers opportunities to photograph prayer flags, pilgrims, monks, prayer wheels, shrines and the morning atmosphere around the stupa.

Continue to Kathmandu Durbar Square, where temples, courtyards, traditional Newari architecture and everyday street activity come together. Rather than simply visiting the monuments, you will have time to explore the surrounding lanes and observe daily life around the old city.

From here, continue on foot through Indra Chowk and Asan Market, one of the most rewarding areas for Kathmandu street photography. The narrow streets are filled with vegetable and spice sellers, small shops, temple shrines, porters, local shoppers and generations-old businesses.

The emphasis today is on slowing down, observing and capturing natural moments as Kathmandu goes about its daily life.

Photography Focus: Pilgrims, sadhus, monks, rituals, religious life and Buddhist street scenes

Today explores two of Kathmandu's most important spiritual places: Pashupatinath Temple and Boudhanath Stupa.

Start at Pashupatinath, one of Nepal's most sacred Hindu pilgrimage sites. Along the Bagmati River, you may see pilgrims performing rituals, Hindu holy men known as sadhus, temple activity and traditional ceremonies. Photography here requires sensitivity and respect, particularly around cremation areas and private religious moments, and your guide will help you understand where and when photography is appropriate.

Later, continue to Boudhanath Stupa, the centre of a large Tibetan Buddhist community in Kathmandu. The atmosphere is very different from Pashupatinath. Monks, pilgrims and local residents walk clockwise around the great white stupa while prayer wheels turn and butter lamps are lit in nearby monasteries.

Spend time exploring the streets and monasteries around Boudhanath before photographing the changing atmosphere toward late afternoon and evening. It is an excellent location for capturing the relationship between religion and everyday life in Kathmandu.

Photography Focus: Newari culture, artisans, architecture, village life and environmental portraits

After breakfast, travel to Patan, one of the Kathmandu Valley's historic Newari cities. Patan Durbar Square is surrounded by temples, traditional buildings and courtyards, but some of the best photographic opportunities are found by walking through the smaller streets beyond the main square.

Explore neighbourhoods where workshops, shrines, local markets and traditional homes remain part of everyday life. Depending on local activity, there may be opportunities to photograph craftspeople and artisans at work.

Continue to Bungmati and Khokana, traditional Newari settlements south of Patan. These villages offer a quieter contrast to central Kathmandu, with brick houses, courtyards, agricultural scenes, temples and local residents going about their daily routines.

Today's photography is less about famous monuments and more about people, place and traditional life in the Kathmandu Valley. You will have time to walk slowly, observe and photograph respectfully rather than rushing through the villages.

Photography Focus: Ancient heritage, village streets, rural life, architecture and Himalayan landscapes

Leave Kathmandu after breakfast and travel toward Changu Narayan, an ancient hilltop temple surrounded by a small traditional settlement. The temple complex, carved stone and wooden details, village lanes and local surroundings provide a mixture of architectural and cultural photography.

Continue to Panauti, one of the Kathmandu Valley's atmospheric old towns. Explore its narrow lanes, traditional houses, temples, courtyards and riverside areas on foot. Compared with central Kathmandu, Panauti offers a quieter environment for photographing local life and historic Newari architecture.

Later in the afternoon, drive to Dhulikhel, a traditional hill town east of Kathmandu. After checking into your hotel, head out for sunset photography. On a clear day, Dhulikhel offers wide views across the hills toward the Himalayan range.

This day provides a change of pace, combining cultural street photography with rural landscapes and Himalayan scenery.

Rise early for sunrise photography in Dhulikhel. Weather permitting, the first light over the Himalayan landscape creates a beautiful start to the day. After sunrise, return to the hotel for breakfast before driving to Bhaktapur.

Bhaktapur is one of the highlights of this Nepal street photography tour. Its brick-paved lanes, temple squares, traditional houses, courtyards, workshops and neighbourhoods provide countless opportunities for photography.

Explore Bhaktapur Durbar Square, Taumadhi Square and Pottery Square, while also spending time away from the main monuments in quieter residential streets. Depending on the day's activity, you may see potters working with clay, local shopkeepers, artisans, farmers bringing produce into town and residents gathering around temples and courtyards.

Staying overnight in Bhaktapur is particularly valuable for photographers. As the day progresses and many visitors leave, you can continue photographing the city in the softer evening light and experience a more relaxed side of local life.

Photography Focus: Early-morning street life, temples, markets and final images of Nepal

Begin your final day with an early-morning photography walk in Bhaktapur. The city has a different character at this hour, before the main daytime activity begins. Residents open their shops, people visit neighbourhood shrines, vendors prepare for the day and the first light reaches the brick streets and temple squares.

This final walk gives you another opportunity to photograph Bhaktapur's everyday life, Newari architecture and historic streets in a quieter atmosphere.

After breakfast, return to your hotel and prepare for departure. At the appropriate time, a Himalayan Dream Team representative will transfer you by private vehicle from Bhaktapur to Tribhuvan International Airport for your onward flight.
