Today marks the beginning of our adventure in the Manang region and its stunning valleys. After a hearty breakfast, we set off on a long drive towards Dharapani. The journey takes us along winding roads that run parallel to fast-flowing rivers, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding foothills.
As we travel, we’ll pass through charming roadside settlements and hilltop villages, with glimpses of mountains and terraced fields enhancing the scenic drive. Our first major stop is Besisahar, where the landscape becomes even more captivating. From here, the road becomes rough and dusty, but the discomfort is quickly overshadowed by the magnificent scenery visible from the vehicle's windows.
By evening, we will reach Dharapani, where we'll stay overnight, preparing for the trek ahead.
Each day on this trek brings a new landscape. Today, we journey through pine forests to reach Bagarchhap, continuing past an old monastery to Danaque. We then ascend to Timang village, where the view of the Himalayas, including Manaslu, is breathtaking. Our path takes us through more pine forests until we reach Lata Marang village after about an hour and a half. Continuing through forests, we reach Thanchow, and finally, the village of Koto. Just ahead lies Chame, the district headquarters of Manang. We stay overnight in Koto.
From Koto, we head towards the restricted valleys of Nar and Phu. The trek begins past Chame, following the Nar River upstream. As we move through lush forests, the trail becomes rocky. We pass several campsites along the Nar River and old caves before reaching the Nar Phu River Campsite. Crossing a couple of bridges over the Nar River, we enjoy the sight of beautiful woods and waterfalls before arriving at Dharmashala. After a steep climb, we reach Meta,
Today's trek starts in the scenic grasslands and meadows of Meta, with views of Annapurna II and Lamjung Himal Peak. We pass several chortens and reach Nar Phedi, then move past trails leading to Naar village. As we follow the Phu River upstream, the landscape resembles Tibetan terrain. Passing Chyako and Kyang, we encounter remnants of ancient Khampa settlements. Navigating rocky trails and crossing several bridges, we finally reach Phu Gaon
Today is for acclimatization. We explore the rich cultural heritage, religious sites, and natural diversity around Phu Gaon. A popular hike is to the Tashi Lakhang Monastery, one of the world’s greatest Buddhist monasteries. We may also visit Thashi and Samdu Choling Gompas. After a day of cultural exploration and observing local life, we return to our teahouse for the night.
We head to Nar village today, taking a different route from Phu Gaon. Passing Ghomein village, we ascend to Phu Pass (5,050m) with stunning Himalayan views, then descend to Loang before climbing to Naar Pass (5,400m). After a steep descent, we pass the trail leading to Teri La Pass and reach Chaungseng Kharka. Continuing downhill, we arrive at Nar village
Today is another acclimatization day in Nar village. We prepare for the challenging passes ahead by climbing the hills above the village. Exploring the village’s gompas and monasteries, we gain insight into local life and traditions. We also check our gear and equipment, ensuring we are ready for the trek tomorrow.
Today is a challenging day as we cross the high Kang La Pass (5322M) . Starting early, we leave Nar village and head for Kang La Phedi. The path takes us through grazing fields and streams, with views of Kang Ru peak. The steep climb to the pass offers breathtaking views of Annapurna II, Gangapurna, and Tilicho Peak. Descending from the summit, we pass moraine paths and grassy terrain, encountering waterfalls and chortens before reaching Ngwal village. We stay overnight in Ngwal, known for its beautiful architecture and cobbled streets.
After conquering challenging high passes, today's trek is relatively easier. We continue along the trail, passing ancient gompas including Sher Gompa, and the small hamlet of Julu before reaching Muchhi, where the trail from Hongde meets ours. We then ascend to Braga, an ancient village with a 900-year-old monastery. Our journey continues to the famous Manang village, with stunning views of Gandraba Chuli, Pisang Peak, Annapurna III, Tilicho Peak, and the Annapurna massifs along the way. We traverse through cool pine forests before arriving in Manang,
Today, we're making our way to the base of Thorong La pass, called Thorong Phedi. We'll start from Yak Kharka, climb up a ridge, then go down and cross the Marsyangdi river using a wooden bridge. Following the mountain path, we'll walk along a narrow trail on a slope until we reach Thorong Phedi.
Today, we trek towards either Thorong Phedi or High Camp, depending on the group's fitness. Starting from Leder, we descend to a glacial river, pass some tea shops, and then climb uphill past landslide-prone areas to Thorong Phedi on a rocky path. The trek continues uphill along a rocky gravel path until we reach High Camp. This strenuous walk is rewarded with breathtaking views of the surrounding peaks
Today is the ultimate adventure as we cross the challenging Thorong La Pass. We start early to avoid the strong winds that develop later in the morning. The steep climb through highland gravel and rocky paths offers spectacular views of the Himalayas, including the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges, Thorong Peak, Dhapus Peak, deep valleys, and cascading hills. After reaching the top and capturing the stunning scenery, we descend steeply towards Muktinath. The trail becomes more gradual as we pass temporary settlements and barren hillsides before arriving at the holy Muktinath.
Muktinath holds great significance for both Hindus and Buddhists. In Tibetan, Buddhists refer to it as "Chumig Gyatsa," which translates to "Hundred Waters." True to its name, the temple grounds of Muktinath feature 108 water sprouts and an eternal flame.
We begin our day by exploring the sacred Muktinath Temple, including the Gompa, Jwala Mai Temple, and the eternal flame and holy water taps. The trek continues from Muktinath, descending to Ekle Bhatti village through the arid landscape and past the villages of Jharkot and Khingar, which feature typical Tibetan architecture. Beyond Ekle Bhatti, we follow the Kali Gandaki River to reach Jomsom, battling strong afternoon winds along the riverbed. We cross some bridges and follow a pleasant trail before arriving in Jomsom
The thrilling adventure in the Annapurna region concludes with a scenic flight from Jomsom to Pokhara. This half-hour flight offers stunning views of some of the world's highest mountains and contrasting landscapes. After landing in Pokhara and refreshing ourselves, we have the opportunity to explore the scenic destinations in the city. From boating on Phewa Lake to visiting caves and waterfalls, there are plenty of sightseeing options
After an early breakfast, we'll begin our scenic drive back to Kathmandu, typically taking around 6-7 hours.
However, please note that ongoing road construction between Kathmandu and Pokhara has led to increased traffic congestion and air pollution, potentially extending the journey to approximately 8-9 hours. We appreciate your patience and understanding during this time.
For a quicker and more comfortable option, you can choose a 30-minute flight between Kathmandu and Pokhara. The cost for a one-way flight is USD 125 per person. This alternative offers a convenient and time-saving solution to return to Kathmandu.
