The Upper Mustang Motorbike Tour is rated as moderately difficult, offering a thrilling yet demanding ride through one of Nepal’s most remote and rugged landscapes. While the journey is exhilarating for seasoned riders—especially those with off-road motorbiking experience—it may be more challenging for beginners or those unfamiliar with high-altitude, unpaved trails.
Expect a mix of gravel paths, rocky trails, steep climbs, and narrow mountain roads as you travel through the Kali Gandaki Gorge, desert valleys, and ancient Himalayan settlements. The route includes multiple off-road sections that require confident handling of a Royal Enfield or similar adventure motorbike. Due to the challenging terrain, prior experience with off-road motorcycle tours is highly recommended.
The maximum altitude reached on this tour is 3,840 meters (12,598 feet) at Lo Manthang, the capital of Upper Mustang. At this height, riders may face altitude-related issues, including fatigue, mild altitude sickness, or shortness of breath. Proper hydration, acclimatization, and pacing are essential.
We advise riders to prepare mentally and physically for both the altitude and the terrain, especially those coming from low elevations.
Embarking on the Upper Mustang Motorbike Tour is a thrilling adventure, but it requires proper planning, gear, and awareness to ensure a safe and enjoyable ride. At Himalayan Dream Team, we’ve outlined key preparation tips for your successful journey through Nepal’s remote high-altitude terrain.
Before heading to Upper Mustang, ensure your motorbike is fully serviced and adventure-ready. The terrain is rough, and reliability is crucial. We recommend using a Royal Enfield Himalayan or similar off-road bike with good ground clearance and shock absorption.

9th October, 2024
The Upper Mustang Motorbike Tour is one of the best experiences I have done in my life.I fully recommend to all my friends and family I know, the Upper Mustang Motorbike Tour with the Himalayan dream team. The whole excursion was seamless, fun and enriching at the same time. The guide’s professionalism, knowledge of the area and their safety measures made all the difference.
The Kali Gandaki Gorge is awe-inspiring; Muktinath’s spiritual energy is a must see so is the ancient walled city of Lo Manthang. Other things I enjoyed were the Royal Enfield bikes and the support crew which were always one step ahead.
This was awe inspiring. It felt amazing to be part of a family quote unlike other tours offered. I am visiting Nepal again, everything was planned so well that I could go for other tours.
