After reaching Rasuwagadhi-Kerung border, you’ll complete Nepal immigration formalities before meeting our Tibetan guide and driver on the other side. A short drive will then take you to Kerung town, where you can rest and acclimatize before continuing deeper into Tibet.
Today is dedicated to acclimatization, allowing your body to adjust to an altitude of 2,800m in Kerung. After yesterday’s long drive, you’ll enjoy a relaxed day exploring the area and preparing for the journey ahead.
After breakfast, we take a short drive to Jipu Village, followed by a scenic hike to Milarepa Cave, a sacred meditation site of the great Tibetan saint Milarepa. Along the way, enjoy the serene landscapes, lush forests, and breathtaking views of snow-capped peaks above the village.
Later, visit Paba Monastery, a historical Buddhist site at the heart of Kerung Town, where you can experience the spiritual and cultural essence of the region. You’ll also have time to explore traditional Sherpa villages, offering insight into their unique Himalayan lifestyle.

The ideal months for clear views and pleasant weather are May, June, September, and October. Winters are harsh, making travel difficult.
For a unique cultural experience, visit during the Saga Dawa Festival in May or June (Tibetan calendar April 15), which honors the birth, enlightenment, and nirvana of Buddha. Pilgrims gather for special rituals and kora, creating a deeply spiritual atmosphere.
📅 Saga Dawa Festival 2025: June 11 (solar calendar).
Mansarovar Lake is a religiously sacred place, and pilgrims used to take a holy bath as part of their religious trek to Mount Kailash in the past. This was meant to wash away their souls and spiritually bless them. The Tibetan government, however, in recent times, has banned bathing in the lake, and it is not possible for tourists to take a dip there anymore. All the same, pilgrims can nonetheless collect water in a bucket so that they may take the sacred bath so they can pay respects to the tradition in a decent manner. As much as this may be deviating from their previous ways, the serene surroundings and divine atmosphere of Mansarovar still create a profoundly spiritual experience for individuals who visit it.
The Kailash Kora is a high-altitude trek that is not long in distance but takes 2 to 3 days to finish. The distance trekked is approximately 52 km with the highest altitude at Dolma La Pass (5,645m). The trek does not involve steep climbs like other Himalayan treks, but the altitude and cold temperatures make it physically challenging.
Good physical health and fitness are required to complete the trek comfortably. Nevertheless, with proper acclimatization and proper support, most pilgrims can successfully make the Kora. At Himalayan Dream Team, our expert guidance and dedicated support have helped countless pilgrims complete the Kailash Kora with confidence, making their journey safe, smooth, and spiritually fulfilling.
