On arrival, begin exploring Bungamati on foot.
Unlike the busy central areas of Kathmandu and Patan, Bungamati offers a quieter introduction to traditional Newari settlement life. Walk through narrow lanes, old brick houses, courtyards, shrines and neighbourhood squares while your guide explains the village's history, architecture and cultural traditions.
Bungamati is closely associated with Rato Machhindranath, an important deity in the religious and cultural traditions of the Kathmandu Valley. Your guide will explain this connection and the role that festivals and religious traditions continue to play in local community life.

Continue to Karya Binayak Temple, an important Hindu shrine dedicated to Lord Ganesh.

Discover Khokana Village
Continue to nearby Khokana, another historic Newari settlement with a distinctive character of its own.

Khokana is especially well known for its traditional mustard-oil production. The village and its mustard-oil seed industrial heritage have been included on Nepal's UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List.
