✦ Kathmandu Durbar Square
After lunch today, we shall proceed to Kathmandu Durbar Square which houses an ancient royal palace complex with intricately carved wooden temples around it. The entire area is part of the glorious heritage of Newar civilization and if you are lucky, you will be able to see some locals in traditional costumes which would be great for photographs.
✦ Local Spice and Vegetable Markets – Indra Chowk and Asan
Spend the last part of the day enjoying the local markets of Indra Chowk and Asan. This part of the town is colorful with fresh fruits and vegetables along with lots of spices that are perfect for people who enjoy street photography as well as for those who want to experience a different side of Kathmandu. Later, go back to your hotel and rest and prepare for your Mera Peak Climbing .
Today begins with a breathtaking flight above the snow capped Himalayas towards Lukla (2,840m), which is famous for its airstrip. Looking down at the cliff on which the runway is stationed at will surely give you an adrenaline rush. After landing in Lukla, you will meet the porter team and pack your bags for the trek.
From Lukla, the path goes south and descends slowly to Surke Village. After this, an ascend to Chutok La pass will be followed which will be succeeded by a brief descend to a calm village surrounded by forests known as Paiya (2,730m). This village will be your contact point for the rest of the mountains for the next few days.
On this day, you utilize an alternative path known for its scenic view that few people traverse. Plane the first step by climbing up towards Khari La pass and then crossing the Paiya Khola. On your way, the view is breathtaking, with rhododendron and bamboo forests, traditional farmlands and sometimes, Himalayan wildlife.
The trail mixes up and down movements as you get close to the pretty Sherpa village called Panggom which is placed amid thick forest. The views are sometimes more wide open, which rewards climbers with a sense of remoteness and tranquility.
After breakfast, you leave behind the serene village of Panggom and head toward Ningsow, ascending through untouched forests filled with Himalayan flora. A steady climb brings you to Pankongma La Pass (3,174m). As you cross this scenic pass, you officially leave the Dudh Koshi Valley and enter the Hinku Valley, a wild and remote region of the Himalayas.
The path gets calmer, less frequented, and opens to breathtaking views of Kongde, Numbur Himal, and even Manju Peak, allowing uninterrupted immersion in nature's sounds and beauty. Along the way, you trek into the sedated region of Ningsow by afternoon in time for a good night sleep.
Today's journey is through steady forest trail which are draped with mossy rocks, monstrous rhododendrons, and a feeling of being in the wild. There are no villages or teahouses along the trail, making it one of the more remote sections of the trek.
We take a break for a packed lunch in a shaded clearing along the way before proceeding through picturesque jungle trails and over big boulders with carved steps. Eventually we come to Chhatra Khola, a tranquil place where a few tea houses serve trekkers for a well-earned break.
We now enter one of the most biologically diverse and protected areas in Nepal, the Makalu Barun National Park. This magnificent park shelters endangered species which include a snow leopard, red panda, clouded leopard, musk deer, and the Himalayan tahr. Breathing or stroling through this virgin nature is a deeply moving experience.
The trail continues through the beautiful Hinku Valley, following an undulating path that tests your stamina but rewards you with solitude and stunning scenery. After a long yet satisfying day, we arrive at Kothe, a quiet village in the shadow of the surrounding peaks.
The trail today climbs gradually, giving your body a chance to acclimatize before ascending further toward Mera Peak. We follow the Hinku River upstream, walking over rocky trails that resemble glacial outbursts. The path takes us through high alpine pastures used by yak herders during the summer season.
Along the way, we stop at Gondishung, a seasonal herders' camp and a favorite lunch spot. Here, you can visit a 200-year-old Tibetan-style monastery, located on the west bank of the Hinku Drangka—an excellent place to take a spiritual pause. Continuing on, we pass through boulder fields and enjoy views of Kusum Kanguru and Peak 43, before reaching Thaknak, a small settlement with basic tea shops and lodges.
As you move towards the base of Mera Peak, the journey for today is of less distance but of greater importance, which helps you to gain more altitude. The path slowly rises beside the Dig Glacier along the trails of the terminal moraine of the glacier while the views of the peaks, glaciers, and the valley are fascinating. You will pass the Dig Kharka, which is a vast green valley used by the local shepherds, and it is also the place where Charapte Himal starts to become visible.
The path then climbs steadily along a rocky moraine, with occasional short but steep sections. We cross a small glacial stream and continue past the rugged base of Hinku Nup and Shar Glaciers, before reaching Khare, which will serve as our base camp. From here, the views of Mera Peak are clear and dramatic—an exciting preview of the challenge ahead.
This is a dedicated rest and training day, designed to help your body adjust to the altitude and prepare mentally and physically for the summit climb. After breakfast, your climbing guide will lead a hands-on training session on the nearby glacier slopes. You’ll learn how to use essential mountaineering equipment like crampons, ice axes, harnesses, ascenders and ropes in a safe and controlled setting.
The practice helps you get comfortable with basic climbing techniques and builds confidence for the high-altitude ascent. Later in the day, we’ll review gear and check all equipment to ensure you're fully prepared. This training is not just for safety, it's an empowering and enjoyable part of the expedition.
After breakfast in Khare, we begin our ascent to Mera High Camp, following a rugged and rocky path toward Mera La Pass. Along the way, the impressive three summits of Mera come into view: Mera South (6,065m), Mera Central (6,461m) our summit goaland Mera North (6,476m). As we cross the Mera Glacier, the terrain remains non-technical but physically demanding due to the elevation.
At High Camp, the team will be welcoming you with hot beverages and snacks while the tents are being set up. From here you will enjoy some of the most impressive perspectives in the Himalayas, which includes Everest, Kanchenjunga, Lhotse, Makalu, and Cho Oyu, but also near summits like Chamlang and Baruntse. Each climber will have a personal sleeping tent, and a warm, nutritious dinner will be served by the kitchen crew to help you rest before summit day.
Finally, it’s the big day! After eating light breakfast, we begin our summit push around 2:00 am. Climbing steadily across the glacier, we turn on our headlamps, and also put on our ropes. While the course is straightforward, it remains difficult because of the altitude and freezing temperatures. Until the last section, no technical climbing entails.
The last 40–50 meters to the summit involve a steep incline, where we use fixed ropes and ascenders for safety. By mid-morning around 9 or 10 AM, we reach the summit of Mera Peak, where panoramic views of the Himalayan giants surround us: Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Kanchenjunga, Cho Oyu, and many more.
Careful descents (to not disturb any loose rocks) are made back to the High Camp using the previously mentioned route. After resting, the hike towards the quiet eastern valley is started , arriving at Kongma Dingma (4,850m) in the late afternoon.
The goals of this day set aside is to build in some slack for delays to the summit such as poor weather, more time needed for acclimatization, or any other reason. There is a lot of uncertainty in the high mountains so having a buffer period will ensure a much more relaxed and safer schedule.
If all plans go accordingly, and the summit is completed on time, this day can be used to either relax in Kongma Dingma or modified into the descent schedule as appropriate. This offers peace and caters to both the guides and climbers during the expedition.
Today’s trek keeps us at high altitude as we continue through the remote and rugged landscapes of the Honku Valley. After a brief descent from Kongma Dingma, the trail gradually climbs through vast alpine pastures once used by yak herders. You’ll feel the remoteness here—few trekkers pass through this hidden valley.
As we move northward, the dramatic face of Chamlang (7,319m) appears on the horizon, soon followed by impressive views of Mt. Baruntse (7,129m). The trail runs alongside the Hongku River, its glacial waters carving through the valley floor, and slowly leads us toward a series of glacial lakes, including the shimmering Panch Pokhari (Five Lakes) and Seto Pokhari (White Lake).
Later in the afternoon we reach our today’s goal, the phenomenal Seto Pokhari. If the sights are clear during Everest and Lhotse, this becomes one of the most stunning high-altitude camps of the entire journey. Absolutely breathtaking.
Today we leave the tranquil surroundings of Seto Pokhari, one of the pristine glacial lakes nestled in the upper Honku Valley and head toward the southern base camp of Amphu Lapcha Pass. This section of the trek is among the most isolated and wild, rarely visited except during peak trekking seasons.
The trail begins with a steady climb beyond the White Lake, leading us deeper into the high alpine zone. Surrounded by glaciers and frozen lakes, the landscape becomes increasingly rugged and dramatic. We trek through the raw wilderness of this untouched region, where the towering Chamlang Peak (7,321m) dominates the skyline with its hanging glaciers and snow-draped ridges.
After several hours of walking through glacial terrain and remote alpine basins, we reach Amphu Lapcha Base Camp (South). This stark and stunning location sits just below the challenging pass we aim to cross the next day.
Today is one of the most challenging yet rewarding days of the entire journey. After an early breakfast, we begin our ascent along a snow-covered trail leading toward the Amphu Lapcha Pass a demanding high-altitude route that connects the remote Honku Valley to the Everest region. The Upper Honku Valley is wild and rugged, with Amphu Lapcha known for its technical nature and glaciated terrain.
The final stretch of the climb involves traversing over serac cliffs and ice shelves, some towering over 20 feet, using fixed ropes and harnesses under the close guidance of your experienced Sherpa team. From the top of the pass, the views are simply breathtaking Mera Peak, Lhotse, Chamlang, and the vast Hongu Basin unfold before you. After taking in the scenery, we descend with care, rappelling down a rocky slope and continue the trek past the Imja Glacier and Valley, eventually reaching Chhukung, where we rest for the night.
After having breakfast, we will begin to descend towards Namche Bazaar, slowly leaving the high alpine area. The route goes through Bibre village and crosses the Imja River, taking in the heart of Khumbu’s beautiful nature.
As we descend, the air becomes thicker and the landscape greener. We arrive in Namche Bazaar, the vibrant Sherpa town and commercial center of the Everest region. After checking into our lodge, you can enjoy a hot shower, delicious meals, and perhaps some well-earned rest or exploration of the town’s bakeries and shops.
On the final trekking day, we begin with a steep descent from Namche to the Dudh Koshi River, crossing the iconic Larja Dobhan suspension bridge. The trail continues through lush forests, charming villages, and across several suspension bridges adorned with prayer flags.
We pass through Monjo, exiting Sagarmatha National Park, and continue along a more gentle trail through rhododendron, oak, and pine forests. Along the way, we enjoy final glimpses of the Himalayas, including Everest, Kusum Kanguru, and Kongde Ri. By late afternoon, we arrive in Lukla, where we celebrate the successful completion of our incredible adventure.
After an early breakfast, we take a morning flight from Lukla to Kathmandu, enjoying one last aerial view of the terraced landscapes, winding rivers, and the majestic Himalayan peaks that have accompanied us throughout the journey. Upon landing at the domestic terminal, a representative from Himalayan Dream Team will greet you and transfer you to your hotel.
The rest of the day is free to rest, explore Kathmandu at your own pace, or shop for souvenirs to take home. In the evening, we gather once more for a farewell dinner hosted by Himalayan Dream Team, where we share stories, celebrate your achievement, and reflect on the unforgettable experiences of this Himalayan adventure.
This day is a spare in case you did not manage to return from Lukla on scheduled time due to the common weather related delays of the flights. Should you already have returned back to Kathmandu as planned, this is your day to recomfort, rest, or take part in other optional activities at your pace.
A representative from Himalayan Dream Team will be there at the scheduled time to transfer you to Tribhuvan International Airport for your flight back home. Thank you for choosing Nepal with us, trekking with us and we will be seeing you for another Himalayan journey soon as we are welcoming you again with us.
