After landing at Tribhuvan International Airport, you will be welcomed by a representative from Himalayan Dream Team and transferred to your hotel in Kathmandu. After check-in, you will have time to relax and recover from your journey.
In the evening, join a special welcome dinner hosted by Himalayan Dream Team, where you will receive a briefing about your upcoming Everest Mani Rimdu Festival & Gokyo Lakes Trek.
After breakfast at the hotel, your guide will take you on a full-day exploration of Kathmandu's rich cultural and spiritual heritage, visiting several UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
Swayambhunath (Monkey Temple): Begin the day at this ancient Buddhist stupa perched atop a hill overlooking the Kathmandu Valley. One of Nepal's oldest and most revered religious sites, Swayambhunath is sacred to both Buddhists and Hindus and offers spectacular panoramic views of the city.
Pashupatinath Temple: Continue to Nepal's most sacred Hindu temple complex, situated on the banks of the Bagmati River. Here, you can observe traditional Hindu cremation ceremonies and see sadhus (Hindu holy men) practicing their spiritual traditions.
Kathmandu Durbar Square: After lunch, explore the historic royal palace complex in the heart of old Kathmandu. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is home to ancient temples, courtyards, and beautifully carved wooden buildings that showcase traditional Newari architecture.
Local Markets Visit: End the day with a visit to Kathmandu's bustling spice and vegetable markets, where you can experience local daily life, interact with residents, and enjoy excellent opportunities for street photography.
After the sightseeing tour, you will have time for final trekking preparations and a briefing with your guide before the adventure begins.
Today, your Himalayan adventure begins with an early morning flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, one of the world's most scenic mountain flights. During the 35 to 45-minute journey, enjoy spectacular views of Nepal's rolling hills, terraced farmland, traditional villages, and the snow-capped Himalayan peaks.
Upon arrival in Lukla, you will meet the rest of your trekking crew and take a short break for tea or coffee before beginning the trek. The trail descends gradually through traditional Sherpa settlements and beautiful mountain scenery toward Phakding. Along the way, you will pass through Cheplung village and catch your first views of Khumbila (5,761 m), the sacred mountain of the Khumbu region, which has never been climbed.
Following the Dudh Koshi River, you will continue through picturesque villages and farmland before reaching the peaceful riverside village of Phakding, where you will spend your first night in the Everest region.
Note: During the peak trekking seasons (March–May and October–November), flights to Lukla often operate from Ramechhap Airport due to air traffic congestion in Kathmandu. Ramechhap is approximately a 4 to 5-hour drive from Kathmandu, requiring an early morning departure. The flight from Ramechhap to Lukla takes approximately 15 to 20 minutes.
We start early, trekking along the Dudh Koshi River through a scenic pine forest towards the small village of Benkar. Enjoy breathtaking views of Thamserku peak towering above the valley. Cross a long suspension bridge shared with donkeys and mules carrying trade goods.
Continuing to Monjo, take in views of Khumbila peak. Monjo is the gateway to Sagarmatha National Park, where you'll need to show your permits and purchase an entrance ticket at the checkpoint. Descend to the river and cross a suspension bridge to Jorsale village, where you catch your first distant glimpse of Mt. Everest.
After lunch in Jorsale, the trek continues through a steep forested area until reaching the confluence of the Bhote Koshi and Dudh Koshi rivers. Before arriving at Namche Bazaar, the trail ascends to Tope Danda, a vantage point offering expansive views of Namche town. Upon reaching Namche Bazaar, head to a tea house, relax, and enjoy some local butter tea.
Namche Bazaar, the bustling hub of the Khumbu region, is a key meeting point for trekkers and mountaineers. This vibrant town is filled with locals and traders, especially on Saturdays when a lively market takes place. With numerous ATMs, cyber cafes, shops, bakeries, and restaurants, you can enjoy a taste of home with pizza and espresso.
On your acclimatization day, enjoy a hearty breakfast before opting for a hike to nearby attractions. Visit the renowned Khunde Hospital, established by Sir Edmund Hillary, and explore Namche Monastery to delve into Buddhist heritage. Hike to the Everest View Hotel for stunning, close-up views of Mt. Ama Dablam and Mt. Everest. This day offers a perfect blend of rest and exploration, preparing you for the trek ahead.
After breakfast, we leave Namche Bazaar and follow one of the most scenic trails in the Everest region. The path offers magnificent views of Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama Dablam, Thamserku, and Kangtega as we trek high above the Dudh Koshi Valley.
The trail gradually descends to Phunki Tenga, where we stop for lunch before beginning the steady climb through beautiful pine and rhododendron forests to Tengboche. Along the way, you may spot Himalayan wildlife and enjoy ever-changing mountain panoramas.
Upon arrival, we visit the famous Tengboche Monastery, the largest and most important monastery in the Khumbu region. Surrounded by spectacular Himalayan peaks, it is one of the most beautiful locations in the Everest region. In the evening, you may attend the monks' prayer ceremony and experience the peaceful spiritual atmosphere of the monastery.
Today is dedicated to experiencing the famous Mani Rimdu Festival, one of the most important Buddhist celebrations in the Everest region. Pilgrims, Sherpa families, monks, and visitors gather at Tengboche Monastery to witness this sacred event.
Throughout the day, monks perform traditional masked Cham dances, prayers, blessing ceremonies, and ancient Buddhist rituals accompanied by the sounds of horns, drums, and chanting. The colorful costumes and spiritual atmosphere provide a fascinating insight into Sherpa culture and Himalayan Buddhism.
You will have plenty of time to enjoy the celebrations, explore the monastery grounds, and admire the stunning mountain scenery surrounding Tengboche.
Today we continue to enjoy the Mani Rimdu Festival as the ceremonies reach their most important stage. Witness sacred masked dances and religious rituals that symbolize the victory of wisdom, compassion, and positive energy over negativity.
The monastery courtyard becomes a vibrant gathering place where local communities come together to celebrate, receive blessings, and participate in the festivities. This is an excellent opportunity to observe authentic Himalayan traditions and capture memorable photographs.
As the day comes to an end, enjoy another peaceful evening at Tengboche surrounded by the magnificent peaks of the Everest region.
After breakfast, we leave Tengboche and follow a quieter trail towards the traditional Sherpa village of Phortse. Descending through beautiful forests, we cross the Dudh Koshi River before gradually climbing towards the village.
The route offers excellent views of Ama Dablam, Kangtega, Thamserku, and the surrounding valleys. Away from the main Everest Base Camp trail, this section provides a more peaceful trekking experience and a closer look at traditional Sherpa life.
Phortse is known for its strong mountaineering heritage, with many local residents having worked on Everest expeditions. After arriving, there is time to explore the village and enjoy the tranquil mountain surroundings.
After breakfast, we leave the traditional Sherpa village of Phortse and continue towards the beautiful Gokyo Valley. The trail gradually ascends through juniper and rhododendron forests while offering spectacular views of Ama Dablam, Thamserku, Kangtega and other surrounding Himalayan peaks.
As we gain altitude, the landscape becomes more rugged and alpine. Along the way, we pass small yak grazing pastures and seasonal settlements used by local herders. The route is generally peaceful and less crowded than the main Everest Base Camp trail, allowing us to fully appreciate the natural beauty of the Khumbu region.
After several hours of trekking, we arrive at the small mountain settlement of Dole, situated on a scenic hillside overlooking the valley below. The afternoon can be spent relaxing, enjoying the mountain views, and allowing your body to adjust to the increasing altitude as we continue deeper into the Gokyo region.
After breakfast in Dole, we continue our journey deeper into the beautiful Gokyo Valley. The trail gradually climbs above the tree line, revealing increasingly dramatic mountain scenery and spectacular views of Cho Oyu (8,188 m), Kangtega, Thamserku, and other surrounding peaks.
Passing through the small settlements of Lhafarma and Luza, we follow a scenic route high above the Dudh Koshi Valley. As we gain altitude, the landscape becomes more rugged and alpine, with grazing yaks, rocky slopes, and open mountain terrain replacing the forests below.
After several hours of steady trekking, we arrive at Machhermo, a small settlement situated beneath towering Himalayan peaks. The village is an important acclimatization stop before reaching Gokyo. Depending on time and weather conditions, we may visit the Himalayan Rescue Association aid post, where trekkers can learn more about altitude sickness and safe trekking practices in the high Himalayas.
The remainder of the day is free to relax, enjoy the peaceful surroundings, and prepare for the trek to Gokyo Lakes.
Today is one of the most spectacular days of the trek as we make our way to the beautiful Gokyo Lakes. Leaving Machhermo behind, we follow the valley northwards with magnificent views of Cho Oyu and the surrounding snow-capped peaks.
The trail gradually climbs past Phangga before crossing the moraine of the massive Ngozumpa Glacier, the longest glacier in Nepal. Continuing onward, we reach the first of the sacred Gokyo Lakes, followed by several other shimmering turquoise lakes that create one of the most breathtaking landscapes in the Himalayas.
Following the lakeshore, we finally arrive at the village of Gokyo, beautifully situated beside Dudh Pokhari (Third Gokyo Lake). Surrounded by towering mountains and crystal-clear waters, Gokyo offers a peaceful and unforgettable setting in the heart of the Everest region.
After settling into our lodge, there is time to explore the lakeshore, take photographs, and enjoy the remarkable scenery before tomorrow's ascent of Gokyo Ri.
Early in the morning, we begin the climb to Gokyo Ri, one of the finest viewpoints in the Himalayas. The ascent is steep but rewarding, and upon reaching the summit, we are greeted by breathtaking panoramic views of Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu, Nuptse and the vast Ngozumpa Glacier below. The turquoise Gokyo Lakes shimmering beneath the surrounding peaks create an unforgettable mountain landscape.
After spending time enjoying the views and taking photographs, we descend to Gokyo village for breakfast and a short rest.
Later in the day, we continue with an excursion to the 4th and 5th Gokyo Lakes. Following the eastern shore of the lakes, the trail leads through a spectacular high-altitude landscape with magnificent views of Cho Oyu and the surrounding mountains. The 5th Lake is particularly famous for its incredible viewpoint overlooking Everest and the Khumbu region, offering a different perspective from the classic Everest Base Camp route.
After enjoying the scenery, we return to Gokyo for a relaxing evening beside the lake.
After breakfast, we leave the beautiful Gokyo Valley and begin our descent along the same scenic route. Walking beside the turquoise lakes, we retrace our steps across the moraine of the Ngozumpa Glacier before descending through the wide alpine valley.
As we lose altitude, the air becomes richer in oxygen and the landscape gradually changes from barren high-altitude terrain to juniper and rhododendron-covered slopes. Throughout the day, enjoy excellent views of Cho Oyu, Kangtega, Thamserku, and the surrounding Himalayan peaks.
Passing through Machhermo and the small settlements along the route, we continue downhill to Dole (4,200 M), where we spend the night surrounded by beautiful mountain scenery.
Today is a longer descent through some of the most beautiful landscapes in the Khumbu region. Leaving Dole behind, we follow the trail through Phortse and continue towards Tengboche, enjoying magnificent views of Ama Dablam, Everest, Lhotse, and Thamserku along the way.
After passing Tengboche Monastery, we descend through peaceful rhododendron and pine forests to Phunki Tenga before climbing briefly to Sanasa. From here, the trail gradually leads back to Namche Bazaar, where we stop for lunch and a short break.
In the afternoon, we continue descending through Sagarmatha National Park, crossing several suspension bridges over the Dudh Koshi River before reaching the village of Monjo (2,835 M). Situated just below the national park entrance, Monjo offers a comfortable and peaceful overnight stop before returning to Lukla.
Today marks the final day of our trek in the Everest region. After breakfast, we follow the familiar trail alongside the Dudh Koshi River, crossing several suspension bridges and passing through traditional Sherpa villages, forests, and farmland.
The route takes us through Monjo, Benkar, Phakding, and a series of small settlements before gradually climbing towards Lukla. Along the way, there are plenty of opportunities to reflect on the incredible journey through the Everest region while enjoying the beautiful mountain scenery one last time.
The final ascent to Lukla is gentle but rewarding. Upon arrival, there is time to relax, celebrate the completion of the trek with your guide and porter team, and enjoy your last evening in the Khumbu region.
After an early breakfast, we transfer to Lukla Airport for the scenic flight back to Kathmandu. The 35 to 45-minute flight offers one final opportunity to admire the spectacular Himalayan landscapes, including snow-capped peaks, deep valleys, and traditional mountain villages from above.
Upon arrival in Kathmandu, you will be transferred to your hotel. After checking in, the remainder of the day is free to relax and enjoy some well-deserved comfort after your trekking adventure. You may choose to explore the city's vibrant streets, visit local markets, enjoy a café, or shop for souvenirs and handicrafts.
Your guide will be happy to provide recommendations for sightseeing, restaurants, or any last-minute shopping. This free afternoon is also an excellent opportunity to reflect on the unforgettable experiences of the Mani Rimdu Festival and the breathtaking landscapes of the Everest and Gokyo regions.
This day is reserved as a contingency in case flights from Lukla are delayed or cancelled due to weather conditions, which can occasionally happen in the Everest region. Having this extra day provides flexibility and helps ensure that your international travel plans remain unaffected.
If all flights operate as scheduled, you will have a free day in Kathmandu to relax after your trek or join an optional sightseeing excursion to two of the Kathmandu Valley's most remarkable UNESCO World Heritage Sites: Boudhanath Stupa and Bhaktapur.
In the morning, visit the magnificent Boudhanath Stupa, one of the largest Buddhist stupas in the world and an important center of Tibetan Buddhism. Join pilgrims as they walk clockwise around the stupa, spinning prayer wheels and offering prayers while enjoying the peaceful spiritual atmosphere. You may also visit one of the nearby monasteries to gain a deeper insight into Buddhist culture and traditions.
Afterwards, continue to the ancient city of Bhaktapur, often regarded as Nepal's best-preserved medieval city. Following lunch at a traditional Newari restaurant, explore the city's historic squares, temples, courtyards, and narrow brick-paved streets. Highlights include Bhaktapur Durbar Square, the magnificent 55-Window Palace, the Golden Gate, and Pottery Square, where local artisans continue centuries-old pottery traditions.
In the late afternoon, return to Kathmandu. The evening is free to relax, enjoy a farewell dinner, or explore the lively streets of Thamel for some last-minute shopping and souvenirs.
After breakfast, depending on your flight schedule, a representative from Himalayan Dream Team will transfer you to Tribhuvan International Airport for your onward flight.
As your Everest Mani Rimdu Festival, Gokyo Lakes & Gokyo Ri Trek comes to an end, take with you unforgettable memories of the Himalayas, the spiritual atmosphere of Tengboche Monastery, the vibrant Mani Rimdu Festival, and the spectacular mountain views of the Everest region.
