Are you planning for the Everest base camp trek? If yes, then there are different routes to reach your destination. You don't have to worry about anything as all the routes are properly managed by the Nepal government and many trekking companies.
In this blog, we will discuss the alternative to Everest base camp trek routes.
Classic Everest base camp trek route
This trek route involves hiking a 53 km trail from the airport town to Lukla to the camp. Then, you retrace your steps on the return journey, completing the distance of 106 km. According to expert trekkers, this is the shortest route.
On this route, you will enjoy more diversified scenery and love staying in different, quieter villages. Generally, the classic route is for 11 days. If you have limited time and budget for the adventure, you should take up this route.
Everest base camp trek with helicopter return
You can start your journey along the classic route and hop into a helicopter for a beautiful ride to Lukla. Keep in mind that Lukla is the starting point of the Everest base camp trek route.
This route is considered the best for less seasoned trekkers as it's the shortest and easiest. The Everest base camp trek with helicopter return gives you a perfect view of Mt. Everest, renowned glaciers and incredible scenery.
Compared to other treks, this route is a bit more expensive because of helicopter rides.
Everest Base Camp Trek via Gokyo Lake
In this route, you follow the traditional route to base camp. But, on the return journey, you detour your route by visiting the beautiful Gokyo Lakes.
By taking up the Everest base camp trek via Gokyo Lakes, you create a loop in the trail. With this, you walk through fresh territory for most of your return hike. On this route, you will experience Khumbu's cultural and natural richness.
The route is challenging, but reaching the destination will satisfy you. You will cross Cho Pass, summit Gokyo Peak, and see the beautiful Ngozumpa Glacier. Lastly, the return route is quieter than the classic route. You will get the experience of remote and traditional parts of the Himalayas.
Everest base camp trek and three passes route
It's the extension of the EBC trek via the Gokyo Lakes trek route. Due to two mountain pass crossings, this route is longer and harder. So, it's recommended for seasoned high-altitude trekkers looking for adventure with challenges.
When you cross three mountain passes, you come across tricky sections with snow, loose rocks, boulders and scree. In this route, you will do a big loop through Sagarmatha National Park over a fortnight. It's said that the park is the bustling and traditional section of the EBC trail. Also, it's wild and quiet. The best part of this route is the beautiful scenery and views of all the different Everest Base Camp trek routes.
